The Okara Lakes encompass two distinct bodies of water—Lake Tekeni and Lake Easka — each with its own unique aquatic features. Tekeni, is 22 acre spring-fed lake, boasts a sandy bottom and feeds into the Moose River through its outlet. In contrast, Easka, the larger of the two lakes at 26 acres, receives its water from Beaver and Rock Ponds to the east of Thendara. Its outlet also flows toward the Moose River. The name Okara stems an Iroquois name for “The Eyes”. Okara Lakes are privately owned; community property owners enjoy access to several locations on the lakes including the the beach on Lake Tekeni.
